As a coffee farmer, Peter Munya learned first hand that the Kenya supply chain was broken. Farmers were forced to turn over their coffee cherries to cooperatives with no transparency into their process or prices. He entered public service, while continuing to operate his farm, with one mission: to improve the livelihoods of farmers.

Munya was elected Governor of Meru County and later appointed to be the Minister of Agriculture for the Kenyan government. He worked tirelessly to amend laws so farmers had the legal right to sell their coffee how they choose. We are proud to have Munya as a co-founder of Undugu farms, continuing as a private business what he began in the public sector — bringing farm-direct coffee from Kenya to roasters worldwide.
