Marion Murage and her sister Faith are carrying on their family legacy of coffee farming. Undugu farms is honored to be partnering with one of the few women-owned and operated coffee farms in Kenya. As is often the case, when the next generation inherits a farm, they must make the difficult decision of whether to keep it going. The existing coffee supply chain in Kenya has compounded the difficulty of making a living by farming. Marion believed it was the best way to honor what her parents had built.
When you step onto a coffee farm, you immediately get a feeling for the health of the ecosystem. When we visited Murage for the first time, we knew this was a special place. It’s an incredibly well-run farm, and boasts a naturally perfect home in Kirinyaga County on the southern slopes of Mt. Kenya. We weren’t surprised to learn the coffee recently scored as high as 89. This region has only one crop per year in the early fall. Murage Estate expects to produce about 85 bags of green coffee, all of which will be pre-allocated. Reach out soon to reserve some!
